PainBrief is a personal pain tracking application developed by Andrew Patrick (the "Developer"). This Privacy Policy explains what data the app collects, what it does not, and the very limited ways in which any information leaves your device.
Everything you log in PainBrief — episodes, medications, vitals, body zones, notes — is stored only on your iPhone. We do not have a server. We do not have an account system. We do not run analytics. The only network calls the app makes are to Apple and to RevenueCat, and they are limited to verifying your purchase of PainBrief Pro and reading from Apple Health if you grant permission. We are an independent app with nothing to monetise from your data.
Pain episodes, medications, dose logs, body zones, triggers, activities, notes, vitals, reminders and any other content you enter is stored locally in an on-device SQLite database. This data never leaves your device unless you explicitly export it (for example, by tapping Share on a generated PDF report). PainBrief has no servers and cannot access your data.
If you grant permission, PainBrief reads selected health metrics from Apple Health — including heart rate, blood pressure, weight, sleep, steps, blood oxygen, blood glucose, body temperature, and similar vitals — and writes back vitals you manually enter in the app so all your health data lives in one place. You control which categories you grant access to via the iOS Settings → Health → Data Access & Devices → PainBrief screen.
Apple Health data is read on-device, used to display your vitals in the app and (if you generate a clinical PDF report) included in that report. It is never transmitted off your device. Apple's own privacy protections apply to all HealthKit data.
PainBrief offers an optional one-off purchase, "PainBrief Pro", which unlocks the Trigger Analysis, Time Patterns, Timeline / Journal, and Clinical PDF Export features. We use RevenueCat (revenuecat.com) to handle the purchase flow and verify entitlements. When the app starts, it sends RevenueCat:
RevenueCat's privacy policy is available at revenuecat.com/privacy. We do not send RevenueCat anything you have entered in the app — no episodes, no medications, no vitals, no notes.
Payments themselves are processed by Apple under your existing App Store agreement. We never see your Apple ID, payment method, or billing information.
When you generate a Clinical PDF report (a Pro feature), it is rendered entirely on your device using iOS's built-in PDF engine. Sharing the PDF uses iOS's standard share sheet — the file is handed to whichever app you choose (Mail, Messages, AirDrop, etc.). We do not receive a copy and do not know that the PDF was generated.
All app data is stored on-device. Uninstalling PainBrief deletes all your pain logs, medications, doses, and settings from your iPhone. To delete your RevenueCat entitlement record, contact us at the address below.
PainBrief is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under that age.
If we ever change this policy, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Material changes will be announced in-app where practical.
